MEDICAL MISSIONS UPDATE:

AMAZON PERU UPDATE – 2008

Special Children of the Amazon (SCOTA) Program Update:

The El Jardin SCOTA program on the Amazon Mission Campus (El Jardin) is flourishing. There are 85 students in the program, and all classroom space is used. The SCOTA computer lab is being utilized by teachers and students.

The Nauta SCOTA program on ur Nauta mission hub campus is also thriving. There are 20 students in the program. Several USA Board Members visited the school in early November and stated that the building looked fabulous. Plans are in progress for a formal dedication and naming of the School. This campus overlooks the Maranon River - approximately 5 miles from the headwaters of the Amazon River.

Construction progress of the new SCOTA School at our Tamshiyacu mission hub campus is nearing completion (expected April 08). This new school funded by a private foundation based in Atlanta, Georgia.

Living Waters Project Update:

The Living Waters Project, a collaborate effort between the Living Waters for the World Ministry, Trinity Presbytery, and Medical Missions, continues to work toward installing a water purification system on the El Jardin Campus. Profits from the water, which will be sold below market value, will create income for Medical Missions in Iquitos , and will help the surrounding community. A skeleton crew will travel to Iquitos to initiate the project in 2008 to network with other groups in Iquitos , who will then run the system. Tamshiyacu and Nauta are also potential sites for these water purification systems.

The Amazon Mission Fellowship (AMF) is a sister organization to Medical Missions that was born out of a need for management of the ministries of Medical Missions in Iquitos, Peru and surrounding jungle villages.  The AMF is primarily responsible for helping to establish and maintain convenant relationships between U.S. and Peruvian congregations and their pastors.   Five Peruvian Churches now have “sister churches” in the US . The AMF is working to find three more US churches to partner with churches in the Amazon (Santa Tomas, Santa Maria , and Nuevo Valentine need US sister churches). Please visit the AMF Website for more information. http://www.amazonmissionfellowship.org/

COSTA RICA UPDATE - 2008

In July 2008 missions groups worked to complete an addition to the Brasilitio Church Sanctuary, located in a costal fishing village in Northern Costa Rica. The building is now complete and the congregation is worshipping in it. The building looks great, and the Pastor, his family, and the congregation are thrilled. The Brasilito church continues to grow under Pastor Pacifico, who is doing a fantastic job.

The Oriente Church serves three removed communities in the interior of Costa Rica . The project has been under construction for two years.

Finally, from all of us here at Medical Missions, a heartfelt “Thank You” for caring enough to share the love of Jesus Christ with the truly poor in developing countries.
